FAQ
At FrodosLair.Net, we are doing our best to create a Web site that anticipates and satisfies our customers' needs. With that goal in mind, we've compiled a list of frequently asked questions. If you do not find an answer to your question here, contact us at frodo@frodoslair.net.
[WIRELESS SERVICE] Can I use this for my VoIP/Vonage connection? Yes you can and we are setup so that VoIP service gets a priority on our network but, due to the nature of wireless connections it should NOT be relied upon for any emergency or “911” services! Please have another type of service available for an emergency
How can I tell if your signal will reach me? If you already have system with wireless equipment installed and working properly you can simply scan for available networks and if you see our BSSID (frodoslair.net2) then you are “seeing” our signal. As with your cell phone, the more bars the better the signal. If you are interested in our service but, you do not yet have any wireless equipment to see if you can receive signal just send us an email with your contact info and address and as soon as we can we will send someone out to check our signal and let you know if the service would work for you.
I replaced or upgraded my wireless card/adapter, Why can’t I connect? Any equipment used to connect to our wireless service must be checked and approved before it will be allowed to connect to our systems. This is for security mostly and also to be sure your new equipment is connecting at the best possible speed. It also reduces the # of service calls due to problems with new equipment so let us know if you plan to change any of your wireless equipment.
How fast is the connection? That can depend on a great many things including your distance from the antennae, the amount of interference with the signal(some cordless phones and cheap microwave ovens can really interfere with the signal!) the speed of the system you are connecting with and also, how the service is being used at the time. The 802.11g service that we offer can give you speeds up to 54mb/s
